Support For Howard Watts

Backed By The Community
Howard Watts is part of this community — not just as a legislator, but as a neighbor, small business supporter, and advocate.
Here’s what people across Assembly District 15 have to say about working with him, knowing him, and counting on him.
Bianca Contreras
Lake Elementary Counselor
Bianca first connected with Howard while looking for ways to support her students and families.
“Howard is always looking for ways to help schools and support the community,” she says.
When Lake Elementary launched a school garden program, the school needed funding to bring in a farmer to help students learn about growing food and healthy living.
“Without that support, our garden wouldn’t exist,” Bianca says. “Howard helped make sure we had the funding to keep it going.”
“He’s one of my go-to people,” Bianca says. “If we need help, I know he’ll step in or connect us with someone who can.”
“It takes a village to support our kids,” Bianca says. “Howard truly cares about making our community better.”
Mal Gott
Owner of Winnie & Ethels & Neighbor
Mal first met Howard when he showed up to celebrate the opening of Winnie & Ethel’s, the diner she owns with her husband in the district. What stood out was not just that he came, but that he kept coming back.
“He didn’t just come for the ribbon cutting and disappear. He comes in, he says hello, he’s part of the neighborhood.”
When her business and staff were struggling during the federal shutdown, Howard stepped in to help connect them to real resources.
“I’ve reached out to him and honestly, I’ve been surprised in a good way at how responsive he is. And not just quick responses, but thoughtful ones. Not canned. Not generic. Actually helpful.”
For Mal, it comes down to how he leads.
“He makes tough decisions based on what’s right, not what’s easy. That’s why I support him.”
Peter Frigeri
Owner of Gaia Flowers & Neighbor
Peter has known Howard for more than a decade through community work in the neighborhood.
“He’s reliable and true to his word,” Peter says. “When he commits to something, he follows through.”
As a business owner, Peter values Howard’s focus on long-term issues like sustainability, energy, water, and transportation.
“These are the issues that will shape the future of Las Vegas,” he says. “Howard is willing to take them on.”
Peter says Howard stands out because he is willing to tackle complex problems that many leaders avoid.
“He doesn’t just go with the flow,” Peter says. “He’s willing to think outside the box and work toward real solutions.”
Wendy Kveck
Artist and Neighbor
Wendy first met Howard in 2019 at a gathering of artists ahead of the legislative session.
“He came to listen and engage with the issues we were facing,” Wendy says. “That really stood out.”
Since then, Howard has stayed involved, attending events, meeting with artists, and working to understand the needs of the community.
“He shows up. He takes the time to listen and work with you to find real solutions.”
After hearing directly from artists, Howard sponsored legislation to dedicate funding to the arts, something Wendy says would be transformative for the community.
For Wendy, the reason she supports Howard is clear.
“He’s thoughtful, he listens, and he’s focused on doing what’s best for the community,” she says. “He understands that the arts are a vital part of our quality of life.”
Mark Thompson, Ted Williams, & Jeb Stone -
Neighbors
What started as simple neighborly conversations turned into a deeper connection during the pandemic.
“That created a real sense of community,” Ted says. “Howard was right there with everyone else.”
They say what stands out most is how approachable he is.
“You can ask him questions about anything,” Mark says. “He explains complicated issues in a way that actually makes sense.
“Every time I talk to him, I’m impressed by how thoughtful and conscientious he is,” Jeb says. “He’s incredibly intelligent, but he’s also genuinely kind.”
For these neighbors, Howard’s leadership comes down to something simple but meaningful.
“He carries integrity and kindness into every interaction,” Mark says. “And that’s exactly the kind of person you want representing your community.”
Candice Keck
John S. Park Elementary Librarian & Neighbor
Candice didn’t know Howard personally when she first heard his name, it showed up unexpectedly through a donation to the library at John S. Park Elementary School.
“I got a notification that said Howard Watts had donated to my project,” Candice recalls. “I had never had an elected official support one of my projects before,” Candice says.
Through DonorsChoose, Candice raises funds to provide books and materials for her students, resources that aren’t always covered by school budgets.
A few months later, Candice had the chance to meet Howard in person and thank him. That initial act of support, and the follow-through she’s seen since, has made a lasting impression.
“What stands out most is his consistency. He shows up,” she says. “If he says he’s going to do something, he follows through.”
For Candice that reliability matters.
“He’s supported our students, listened to the community, and followed through,” she says. “That’s why I support him.”
Dawson Frost
Legislative Intern & Staffer, Neighbor
Dawson first connected with Howard through the legislative internship program at the University of Nevada, Reno, where he ranked Howard as a top choice to work with. That experience, and later serving as Howard’s legislative staffer, gave Dawson a close look at how he operates.
“He had one of the busiest workloads in the building,” Dawson says. “But he made it look effortless because he knows the policy and the issues so well.”
Dawson says what sets Howard apart is his ability to bring people together and get things done.
“There are a lot of legislators and stakeholders with strong views,” Dawson says. “Howard is someone who can build consensus and actually get things done.”
Beyond the policy work, Dawson says Howard’s leadership shows in how he treats people.
“He takes time for people,” Dawson says. “Even when he’s exhausted from meetings all day, if someone comes to the office wanting a meeting, he makes time to talk with them.”
For Dawson, working with Howard shaped the kind of leader he hopes to be.
“He leads with empathy and courage,” Dawson says. “He’s someone I really look up to.”
Carmen Bates & Larry Williams
Neighbors
Carmen and Larry have lived in the neighborhood for decades and first got to know Howard during the COVID pandemic, when neighbors gathered outside to stay connected.
“He speaks to people, not at them,” Carmen says. “It’s important that people feel heard, and that’s exactly who he is.”
They saw how deeply Howard listens and cares about the community, and how he shows up when people need help.
When Carmen reached out about a friend struggling to get a visa approved, Howard stepped in and helped resolve the issue within weeks.
“He said, ‘I’ll help take care of it,’ and he did,” Carmen recalls.
For them, that responsiveness, and his willingness to take tough positions when it matters, is what defines his leadership.
“He’s my kind of candidate,” Larry says. “His heart’s in it.”
