Carmen and Larry have lived in the Marycrest neighborhood for decades and really got to know Howard during the COVID pandemic, when neighbors gathered, outside, socially distanced, to stay connected.
“He speaks to people, not at them, Carmen says. “It’s important that people feel heard, and that’s exactly who he is.”
Over time, they saw how deeply Howard listens and cares about the community and how he shows up when people need help.
When Carmen reached out about a friend struggling to get a visa approved, Howard stepped in and helped resolve the issue within weeks.
“He said, I’ll help take care of it, and he did,” Carmen recalls.
For them, that responsiveness and his willingness to take tough positions when it matters, is what defines his leadership.
“He’s my kind of candidate,” Larry says. “His heart’s in it.”

Elliot met Howard when he came in for a haircut, and has been cutting his hair ever since.
“As a small business owner, it means a lot that he supports businesses in the neighborhood he represents,” Elliot says.
