Regulators Respond to Asm. Watts On Workplace Safety Delays

Assemblymember Watts raised alarms about Nevada OSHA's 133-case backlog before the Occupational Safety and Health Review Board, with the oldest case dating back to 2018. OSHA backlogs delay workplace safety enforcement, allowing hazards to persist and putting workers at risk while employers avoid penalties.

Watts pressed officials to turnaround cases in a timely manner, "It seems like they might need to even tighten that meeting frequency more to ensure, especially, that the backlog that developed because the board didn't have quorum and was unable to meet for months has piled up but also, maybe with the overall case load and volume that we're seeing."

Officials responded by building a 30-day, 60-day, and 90-day plan to address the backlog and align to a 180-day turnaround benchmark. Officials emphasized their renewed commitment to resolving cases in a timely manner and efforts taken since they were originally pressed on the issue in a February hearing.
